How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop one or more JPG files into the box above, or click to select them.
- PNG is already selected as the output format.
- Click Download next to each converted file.
The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this is safe for personal photos and private documents.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
Convert JPG to PNG when you need a lossless copy for editing, so that repeated saves do not add more JPG compression artifacts, or when a website or app only accepts PNG. PNG is also a better starting point if you plan to add transparency later in an editor.
Quality: converting a JPG to PNG keeps the image exactly as it is now, but it cannot restore detail that JPG compression already removed. Expect the PNG file to be larger than the original.
JPG vs PNG
JPG (also written JPEG) is the most widely supported image format. It uses lossy compression, which keeps photos small by discarding detail the eye barely notices, but it has no transparency.
PNG uses lossless compression, so every pixel is kept exactly, and it supports transparency. That makes it ideal for screenshots, logos, and graphics with text, but photos saved as PNG are usually much larger than JPG.
