About Photo Compliance Checking
Having your passport or visa photo rejected wastes time and money. This tool runs automated checks against official requirements so you can fix issues before submitting your application.
What We Check
- Dimensions: Verifies the photo meets minimum pixel dimensions and correct aspect ratio
- File Size: Checks the file is within the maximum allowed size (especially important for USCIS online submissions)
- File Format: Confirms the image is in an accepted format (JPEG or PNG)
- Background Color: Analyzes corner regions to verify a white/light background
- Exposure: Checks for overexposure (too bright) or underexposure (too dark)
- Sharpness: Estimates image clarity to flag blurry photos
- Aspect Ratio: Verifies the width-to-height ratio matches requirements
USCIS Photo Requirements
USCIS has specific requirements for photos submitted with immigration forms. For online submissions, the file must be under 240 KB in JPEG format. The photo must be 2x2 inches with a white background. Many applicants get rejected for file size issues — use our Image Compressor to reduce file size if needed.
What This Tool Cannot Check
Automated checks have limitations. This tool cannot verify: whether both eyes are open, if your expression is neutral, whether glasses are removed, if the photo was taken within 6 months, or exact head positioning. Always review your photo visually against the official guidelines as well.
