What We Check

USCIS Photo Requirements

USCIS has specific requirements for photos submitted with immigration forms. For online submissions, the file must be under 240 KB in JPEG format. The photo must be 2x2 inches with a white background. Many applicants get rejected for file size issues — use our Image Compressor to reduce file size if needed.

What This Tool Cannot Check

Automated checks have limitations. This tool cannot verify: whether both eyes are open, if your expression is neutral, whether glasses are removed, if the photo was taken within 6 months, or exact head positioning. Always review your photo visually against the official guidelines as well.

What does the USCIS file size limit mean?
For online USCIS submissions (like Form I-130, I-485, etc.), photos must be under 240 KB in JPEG format. This is much smaller than most phone camera photos. If your file is too large, use our Image Compressor tool to reduce the size while maintaining quality.
My photo passed all checks but was still rejected. Why?
This tool checks technical specifications like dimensions, file size, and image quality. It cannot verify subjective requirements like facial expression, head tilt, shadow placement, or whether the photo is recent enough. Human reviewers may catch issues that automated tools cannot.
Are my photos uploaded to any server?
No. All analysis happens locally in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your photos are never transmitted anywhere, making this safe for sensitive identity documents.
How do I fix a failed background check?
